At around 3:50 P.M. in San Pedro, located in Los Angeles County, two people were fatally shot and five others were injured by gunfire. According to LAFD Captain Erik Scott, all of the individuals injured or killed were adults ranging from age 23 to 54.

The incident occurred during an auto show at Peck Park near the baseball diamond. LAPD Captain Kelly Muniz said that there were possibly multiple shooters involved, describing the incident as a “dispute between two parties.” LAPD has not yet provided a description of the firearms involved

At around 7:00 P.M., the scene was described by officials as “contained” but still an active crime scene. LAPD confirmed to me that nobody is in custody.

Main points from LAPD:

  • Crime scene still active, but not an active shooter situation

  • Possibly multiple shooters involved, scene is "contained"

  • Nobody in custody

  • "Dispute between two parties"

  • No description of gun/guns yet

  • ~500 people were in the park at the time

The roads were closed for hours after the shooting as emergency crews tended to the situation, and LAPD issued a citywide tactical alert. Law enforcement helped vehicles leave the area safely at the intersection of Crestwood Street and Western Avenue.

By 6:30 P.M., there was a large contingent of LAPD officers in tactical gear, some equipped with assault rifles, walking towards the scene of the shooting.

According to the Gun Violence Archive, this marks the ninth mass shooting in Los Angeles County in 2022.
